I am also unable to send any messages in Battlefield V. I appreciate the commitment to combatting toxicity, but this is a little unreasonable. The toxicity is just as rife as it has ever been, possibly worse. And yet now, without warning or any explanation, I cannot send a message in chat to convey 'gg wp' or alerting my team to a flanking enemy squad. My username in-game is the same as it is on this forum, and as it has been without incident in just about every other game and platform I use. To the best of my knowledge, my name has no improper meaning, or any meaning at all.
I also understand that the system is being updated over time, and that the community managers are doing their best to communicate concerns to the relevant team. Nonetheless, the line that the filter is a 'work in progress' isn't really adequate. The problems are a direct result of recent, active changes to a product/service for which user have paid money, and which has been released for some time. Of course, updates will sometimes result in unexpected behaviours, but the impetus is on the team to rectify those problems, not simply to argue the service is a 'work in progress'. At the very least, the respect of a genuine explanation would have been nice.
