no audio through onboard sound

i run 2 soundcards in my computer, as i use it for twitch streams and music production.
i can only get sound if i select my secondary soundcard. no sound plays if i select my onboard soundcard from the device list.
is there a hidden setting somewhere that i have to tell the game to also use that driver?
