It may technically be a 'piece of cake' but isn't Sony still beta testing their Fortnite experiment? I don't think anything will happen until the beta results are concluded and Sony explains their future crossplay plans and pathway. Only after that will other developers have the opportunity to build crossplay into their future game plans (and they'll want to implement other DLC/plans they had already planned first I imagine, not drop other things because Sony have finally caved in).
You make a good point though.
I'd like to see it too.
But I don't think it's going to roll out fast and it's still on Sony's porch at the moment. 🙂

It's been my experience that you often don't see this unless it's designed from the start such as with 1st party Play Anywhere titles for Xbox and PC or where the developers specifically put in the functionality in the hope that it may be possible to add in down the road. It's definitely something multiplatform AAA games should consider for the next generation of titles.
I think it would be a good way to generate more sales as people might be willing to pick up the same game on another platform if they didn't have to start over. Going forward, they should add the ability for someone who has a Origin Premiere subscription to be able to play EA Access Vault games on Xbox with no additional charge and use and save their game progress between PC and Console and maybe even extend the Premiere full game benefits to Xbox for an additional overall fee.
