I am extremely ticked off...

There has been a lingering issue that started with Battlefield 1 early last year around May 2018's update and the problem has now since carried into Battlefield V occasionally though recently it's constantly now and I am very annoyed that this is happening.

Basically, I go to exit out of the game to quit the entire game application via the Main Menu after I am done playing and instead of the game closing it just sits there and freezes up my entire damn computer forcing me to do a hard reboot every time which could potentially do damage to my computer system which really sucks because I just want the game to work as expected.

I have reported this issue numerous times via the error reporter but never get acknowledgment about it. I did the same when I was playing Battlefield 1 too but the same thing, never heard back so I am guessing that didn't go anywhere even though I have seen constant updates to it and a few new to BFV.

I can send you my system specs or whatever you guys need, I just want the game to work decently so yeah I am extremely frustrated that I bought the game and this issue keeps happening.

What have I tried to fix this issue?
- I reinstalled windows
- I reinstalled the games
- I did a verify file check for the games
- I tried origin beta
- I tried updating and rolling back my graphics driver

And to no avail the issue has since continued..

I was okay with it happening in Battlefield 1 since Battlefield V was about to release soon up until now where it's now also happening in Battlefield V so yeah I am very angry right now!

Why does this keep happening?

I thought maybe it was just my computer but it's not, none of the other games I play on my computer do this, I can exit out of other games without any problems. This issue is only happening with Battlefield so I know for a fact it's not my computer and that it is definitely a bug in the game somewhere causing it.

Please for the love of god fix this freaking annoying issue! I should not have to reboot my computer just to play Battlefield. This is pretty ridiculous honestly.

I'm very technical so if you need me to do anything on my end to help with your investigation please let me know. I just want it to work so I can play and quit the game normally.

I would attach screenshots but that's impossible since it just freezes up my entire operating system. I'm attaching a dxdiag though.

  • Half a year later, people still having this problem. I'm still having this problem. Open up, game is fine, play for a while, close game (whether borderless window or full screen doesn't matter), my computer will operate on 2 fps for like 15-30 minutes. Stuff is freezing all over the place, videos won't play, windows not responding. I just wait it out 'cause I don't wanna force reboot my PC.

Guess I'll just uninstall till there's a fix. Literally can't find anything anywhere about it.

Yeah, honestly I gave up, it's never gonna be fixed by dice or ea unless we get some hacker outside the company to find some non-official tweak to correct it, I'm convinced this issue is just one of those backburner that is left to burn down the house even though I understand from a technical standpoint its difficult to fix stuff if it cant be replicated.

I would also say that if there are this many people having this problem and reporting it aside from me then clearly it is a problem with the game somewhere and not our computers...

@Cruzaficks The only workaround I've found is alt + tabbing out of the game then close it by clicking on the program X in the upper right corner. Anything else just leads to freezing sadly.

I've been tempted to do that but for the most part the game works aside from the terrible multiplayer lag issue that isn't optimized very well leading to random disconnects but it looks like the last patch may have helped with that though I'm sure it'll likely turn into a problem again.

If another game comes along with full level destruction, online play, and is a shooter etc then yeah I will be done with Battlefield as well but, until that happens I will likely keep playing since this is currently one of my favorite games because of the gameplay mechanics. Its a love-hate relationship lol.

  • @Deygus

Exactly love hate relationship. Battlefield is my break from PUBG another love/hate relationship.

Anyways, I've tried alt+tabbing then closing but with no difference in result. I'm currently using a program called "processexplorer" which is meant to be able to close a chain of processes from one application. If that works out, will post it here! If not, then this will be me disappearing 🙂

Ah, I play that one as well but don't have any issues there.

Closest thing I've found to Battlefield is Red Faction lol but its been around a long time and I would love for them to make an online version, it would crush the competition by a long shot.

I found something called SuperF4 but never got it to work even with elevated permissions so let me know how that Process Explorer works out for you.

Yeah this program worked like a charm "process explorer" it's basically like a more extreme version of task manager. I ended the BFV process using the program by right clicking and pressing end process on it and no freezing or anything. (wonder why it doesn't work on normal task manager now)

Hope it helps for you as well! ^^

  • It isnt just mobile graphics, I have the same issue. It scared the crap out of me too, I thought my PC had a stroke or something.

    Specs:

    Ryzen 5 2600

    Rx 590 xfx fatboy

16gb RAM at 2600mhz(cant figure out why it isnt the 3000mhz the packaging says it should be)

    Aorus b450 pro wifi mobo

It's definitely one of the most annoying issues I've encountered while I've been on pc. I just built this  almost a year ago now. Still trying to figure out how to OC.

But yeah, the only work around I've found is tabbing out to close it like you said previously. I've gotten used to it so it doesnt annoy me as much anymore. Been on modern warfare lately anyways.

yup im having the same issue with a rx 590 lol alt tab and x out the game works. but it shouldnt be like this.

  • Well, I have the same issue on my workstation with my 2080 Ti. My PC always freezes when I close BFV. Reinstalled it but it's still not working. Additionally, I don't get rewards in game ... Would like to play it but it just sucks ...
