    I think I found the problem. When the stick center deadzone is set too low it gets triggered without even touching. I set it to 10% and now the problem is solved.

I promise you're not hallucinating. This has happened to me a bunch of times (Xbox), most often in light tanks such as the staghound. I stopped driving that one completely because it keeps getting me killed. Sadly, I didn't record it. Just laughed it off and swapped vehicle.
