What happened DICE?

To whom it may concern,

Like many others, I have played every Battlefield since it was first released. I fell in love with the intricate maps, the multiple game styles, the heavy emphases on team play and in a whole the great community this franchise has created. Sadly it appears DICE that you have lost your way and whether it be you were consumed by greed or fixated on sales targets, the result has been a decline in the community's faith in you.

We all understand there will be bugs in all games, this is something that unfortunately cannot be avoided and we all accept this and try report where we can so that you the developers can alleviate the problems and make the game better for all players both hardcore and casual. While you may believe the bugs are what is causing lack of faith from the community and we can see you all trying to fix these issues, it's the stance over the past year towards the community that has let us down.

When BFV was announced and put on presale, a lot of the community including myself immediately paid for the deluxe edition without even knowing much of the game, simply because we support this franchise and have faith you will create the fantastic experience we know you can. Where my heart breaks is that while you have made a stunning game that is a joy to play, the attitude towards the community to simply 'fall in line' and accept any/all changes regardless whether something was promised/implied before, has put a real dampening on the game and put many of us in a moral dilemma. Do we continue to play BFV which reinforces the belief you can treat us how you like and there will be no consequence or do we not play the game and in-turn we both lose out.

This relationship between developers and consumers is suppose to be a two-way street and right now it feels very one sided. We know this has hurt your sales figures but reducing the cost of the game by 50% within 2 weeks of release, after every player on right now paid full price with many paying nearly a year ago at pre-order is just adding to insult for your foundation player base, which will only hurt you further at the next release, whenever that may be.

I know this is a long message and may not even been seen but I felt it was only right to try reach out and ask you come back to being the DICE that built this community from nothing, not the money hungry train you seem to have become. I look forward to hearing back from someone at DICE about your plan to resolve these issues and maybe allow open dialogue between the developers and the wider community.

Kind regards,
James

  • simple answer, they got into bed with EA and the EA bean counters only want to please shareholders and investors so rush things out regardless of the state its in. I refer you to FO76 for an example.

but yeah BFV was not ready for launch, it needed another 3 months maybe 4.
  • So James, After reading all that there is quite alot of, issues as I'm a Veteran myself and I go back and replay old titles often with a group of friends. If you were to side by side compare BF:V to 1942,Vietnam,2,2142,3,4,1,Hardline, Bad Company series, Heroes,F2p and 1943 and ignore the graphics and effects and look straight into the soul of the game you would find this.

Forced teamplay, Better Communication,Better Balance (in the form of capping players really good at, flying, tanking, sniping and shooting) vs players who arnt and give them to tools to succeed without holding their hand (Cough BF1)  Rewards for helping your team besides getting kills and basic revives, Bringing MORE to the battlefield without tilting the scale of OP and NERFed,  and Idea after Idea that should've been in battlefield YEARS ago.

Now it seems mainly you're upset that people who waited to the buy the game(Who would do that?) got a discount, (Those happen on BlackFriday?) but players like myself who paid full price got to play the game 5 days early while Players who paid for the delux got to play almost 2 weeks early. What ever discount you manage to find, those 2 weeks of game time broken down into hours vs the sale price. I was paying 9 cents an hour to play the game Almost a Month before those who got the sale.

You could also wait 6 months before buying that way all the bugs are squished and there are several content drops to work torwards. But you didnt want to wait, thus you're in this pickle of trying to blame someone else.

    Spoiler
You should've waited if you cant stand bugs.
  • SirTenko my issue isn't the discount at all and I want to make perfectly clear that is not the core of my concerns with this franchise, as I mentioned it was just simply insult to injury.

My problem with DICE at the moment is for the past year or so they have been more focused on revenue than improving the game itself and you cannot deny that.

As I said in the message I wrote if you'd care to re-read the second paragraph, bugs is something all games will be subjected to and as the player base we should take the initiative to notify the development team so they can fix them and therefore make the game better.

My point was the disconnect between DICE and the community that has been growing over the passed year and due to this the sales targets have not been met, the share price of EA has plummeted over 6 months, caused massive delays and further drop in faith, constantly changing situations we are just expected to accept after being tols one thing and then shown another....if you wish to focus on the discount, that is a direct result of the community losing faith which has caused DICE/EA to reduce the price of the game 50% within 2 weeks of launch for veteran players who 99.99% have already bought the game.

I am not blaming people for what I paid for a game because as I said I wish to support this franchise, however I do maintain the belief we should have an open dialogue and allow DICE to hear what the community thinks

  • SirTenko I believe you have missed the entire point of my message. The discount was not the core of my issue with DICE as a company, nor was it the bugs as clearly stated within the second paragraph. Please re-read the message again and should you need clarification on anything you are more than welcome to ask. Question more assume less and fly safe o7

I paid to pre-order the deluxe edition so I could play it early and understanding the price may drop. I got the early access I paid for. I have no regrets.

Just goes to show nothing is ever good enough, I mean come on we know bugs and glitches are to be expected no developer ships 100% perfect anything
