What Should I Upgrade for my PC to run BFV 144fps Consistently?

I've been trying all types of methods to maintain my fps in Battlefield above 60fps. However, even when putting it on med-low settings, it seems that during intense scenarios (explosions, gun fights, etc.) my fps drops down to 50-40 fps. Without no hope in sight to seeing a fix to this, I've decided that I should probably upgrade (unless there is a method I haven't tried before that could alter the situation). Here are the specs I have:

GTX 1070 (SC)

i5 6600K (OC 4.3GHZ)

16 GB RAM

MOBO: Gigabyte z170M-d3h-cf

Judging from this, what part(s) should I upgrade...? It seems unusual to me that my PC can't handle this game, even at low settings. Can't seem to decide what Is causing this problem, either being the game itself, or my specs?

Hey @Carson131, was it the 1809 update that you downloaded?

You can also try to do a clean boot to see if there any programs messing with Battlefield V and turn off any overlay programs for example Discord or Nvidia experience.

Try running a CCleaner to remove old temp files and cache.

Let me know if this works or not for you. šŸ™‚

Hey @Carson131, looking at the system specs you shared and I would suggest playing in DirectX 11 and turning all your settings down low.

Launch the game and then see how it plays, if it runs well you can start turning up your settings to find the perfect balance for your machine.

As for what to upgrade, the best thing to do is take a couple of minutes and decide what you will be using the system for, will it just be for gaming or will you be using it for other things?

Secondly, it is always best to have a budget in mind when asking a question such as this, I would suggest taking a look and then deciding what you are comfortable spending on the upgrade.

That makes no sense mate. u have some sort of problem there. Try turning DX11 off and future frame rendering on. Just for comparison i own a ryzen 1700 and a rx 580. All settings are on ultra besides lighting and effects and post processing is at medium . the first 2 settings dont really have any visual difference at 1080p so i can crank them down to squeeze some performance. the post process setting is the most demanding setting and i have it at medium. It doesnt give me the best reflections on water surfaces but playing multiplayer i simply want best performance. i set post processing to ultra when im playing campaign. this said, im getting 110-130 fps, game looks beautiful and runs flawlessly. considering u have a 1070 ur game should run much better than what u are describing. make sure u have th latest nvidia drivers because they will boost ur performance a lot. im commenting just to point out u dont have to upgrade ur pc to play this game since the game is very well optimized and ur setup should be able to eat through it. My friend has a 6600k like u and a rx 390 and he still plays at a constant 80-90 fps all on ultra so i do think u have some sort of problem there.
  • Hey @EA_Darko, I’m already playing the game at Dx11. If I put my settings to low It does improve fps of course, but I still experience frame drops. Thanks for your reply though. I’m considering buying a GTX 1070 off of my friend for a really cheap price, if so I’ll just upgrade my MOBO I might hopefully see a fix there.

  • I already have future frame rendering on. I’ve also tried turning off DX11 and didn’t see much of an improvement with med-low settings. I will try again just to be sure, but also try to do it with ultra settings, as I sometimes have low GPU usage when In intense situations.

Yes, all drivers are updated. Even tried manually unistalling them and nothing worked. Just FYI though, my GPU does have low usage when playing the game during intense situations. Typically, GPU usage can sit around 50-60% or even drop to 30% when CPU usage is 80% the whole time.

  • It's more than just a simple driver issue, the game itself requires you to have the Windows 10's October Update.

    Hey @Carson131

What about these tips do they help?

    • Turn off Vsync and turn on Future frame rendering. If your FPS is going over the monitors refresh rate you'll want to enable vsync.
    • Turn off Nvidia Geforce Experience Optimization (Nvidia video card)
    • If you have any external secondary hard drives attached to the PC please remove it
    • Turn off EVGA Precision OC'ing utility

    Good luck!
