The reason is people won't buy next year's game if they don't lock teambuilder teams behind online only. What really angers people is that you have to pay for an online service to access it. Some people don't play online games so the service is useless for them outside of using it for online teambuilder.
I'm almost positive somebody out there is already putting together the false advertising lawsuit, and I'm sure it will eventually go class action. This is too easy a win for a lawyer not to take the case.
EA has another thing coming if they think they can "fix" this next year and think we'll all come back with our tails between our legs. If they don't make up for this bait and switch this year, I'm never returning to EA Football and would gladly join that class action.

Everybody who is pissed off about this needs to file for arbitration with EA. You will win your arbitration case. If everybody eligible does this then EA will stand to lose enough money and be forced to actually put Teambuilder in offline mode.
The only way EA does something about this, is if they lose more money than they think they will make in the future.
