Why is LSU's band purple and not gold?

The LSU band is called the Golden Band from Tigerland. They're supposed to be wearing gold.

2) The padding on the fence around the field for LSU should be gold not purple.

3) Why is the menu logo for LSU purple lettering on a purple background? Same goes for UCLA and a few other schools.
