Coach Mode Impossible on Defense

This seems bugged.

After a certain point randomly, coach mode (all 11 defenders CPU controlled while I don't touch the stick) stops working. What happens is that one player (usually the left cornerback) becomes permanently player controlled.

I haven't found a way to get him to go back to being CPU controlled. The result is he just sits there and I get torched. This even persists after the play and even persists between drives. Once it happens it seems permanent.

Does this happen to anyone else and/or has anyone found a way to undo this once it happens to you?

Listen EA, if you don't want to support a coach mode, just remove it from the game and require the player control a player on every play (and I can stop wasting my time on this game and go play something else), but if it's going to be in the game, it should at least work reliably.
