C&C Generals save game error

Hi!

I have an issue with saving a game in C&C generals

When I'm hit the save button - on the left top corner of the screen appears "error" text, and no save game is been created

OS - Windows 10

I'm running the ultimate collection I suppose

What I have tried already:

Run as administrator

set compatibility with windows 7 or XP

change Unicode options

reinstall the game

check the game files via origin

turn off origin in-game screen

turn off windows defender

What else I can try? Appreciate all the help!

  • The solution path is

Go to "my documents" folder - select c&c generals folder - right click and open properties - select "access" tab - there hit "advanced properties" button - hit checkbox "open common access to this folder" - then press "permissions" button - and then mark all the checkboxes there and press "ok"

    That worked for me

  • Maybe the issue is that "my documents" folder, where is the save game should be, have "read-only" attribute, and there is no way I can change it

Every time I'm open folder properties, and hit the checkbox - then apply and close - it turns back "read-only" attribute

Does anyone know how to solve this?

PS command line "attrib -r" doesn't work

@Puppet_Masta91Are you the administrator of your PC/laptop? Please login with your administrator account to change folder permissions as your second post very much sounds like the possible issue behind your problem.

Please try changing the permissions of the Generals and Zero Hour data-folders in My Documents to allow everything. You can do this by right-clicking on the maps, click on Properties, then go to the security tab and edit the permissions for all profiles to allow everything. Does any of that work? Can you show me a screenshot of the permissions of both folders?

@Puppet_Masta91That is exactly what I proposed in my last message here haha. So nice of you to take credit for it, haha :P But glad it worked for you 🙂

  • Hi all.

I have windows 11' and still experiencing the same issue... helpp

  • Same here.

    Windows 11.

    Changing permissions won't work.

No any related message in Event Manager.

Reproduces in either Generals and Generals ZH.
