command and conquer 3 tiberian wars resolution
Hey guys. Stupid question but that's why i'm here. Just got myself a new desktop and I want to run C&C 3 Tiberian Wars at it's peak visual output. I've put all the settings to max such as shadows, terrain detail, animation detail, etc to the max settings and the game runs and looks fine. Now I want to change the visual output to the max resolution that my monitor and the game is capable of at 2560x1440.
Now when I do this I choose the resolution of 2560x1440 and leave the settings menu. I get a box asking to validate the display mode. When I get this box the entire background is black except for the box asking to validate the display. For this reason I know it's not that my machine can't handle this because I see the dialogue box. I would have thought that there would be the start screen background with the box asking is this how you want it? Just afraid to take the plunge and hit yes to see if this works rather than take the time to uninstall and install the game again.
Any help as to telling me that this is normal would be greatly appreciated. If not I guess i'll take the plunge and try it only to see if I have to delete and reinstall the game. 🙂
Everything going dark except for the validation message is pretty much expected behaviour, and isn't at all what I would raise an alarm over. Nor would it destroy your installation in any way.
By the way, C&C 3 has a limited set of resolutions it natively supports. To use custom resolutions, go to this location:
C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Profiles\[C&C 3 PROFILE NAME]
There, open Options.ini with Notepad and find the Resolution value. Set it to whatever you wish, but don't put the "x" between the numbers. In your case, it should look like this:
Resolution = 2560 1440
...and NOT 2560x1440.
Save the file and run the game again. The same goes for the Kane's Wrath expansion, as well as Generals, Zero Hour, Red Alert 3, Uprising and Tiberian Twilight.
