[Info] C&C Red Alert 3 crashes when receiving a transferred map
Normally, this would be left unanswered for probably many months upon end. But you are one of those lucky few that I came over.
This problem only consists with "Command and Conquer: The Ultimate Collection" and is due to a fault in the installer, which makes it skip a few registry keys. Basically the solution is below, and it requires administrative rights, and editing your Registry. (It's always recommended to backup your registry but I'd personally not.)
Solution:
1. Hold down the Windows key and press R to open the Run window.
2. Write "regedit" without quotes into the box and click OK.
3. Check if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit computer, you can do this by holding down the Windows key and pressing Pause, then look under System type.
4a (x86 / 32bit). Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Red Alert 3" then right-click anywhere inside that folder, create a new DWORD-Value (32-bit) and name it UseLocalUserMaps.
4b (x64 / 64bit). Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Red Alert 3" then right-click anywhere inside that folder, create a new DWORD-Value (32-bit) and name it UseLocalUserMaps.
5. You should now be able to install custom maps to "C:\Users\[USER LOGIN NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Red Alert 3\Maps\" if you're running Windows Vista, 7, 8 or greater, and "C:\Documents and Settings\[USER LOGIN NAME]\Application Data\Red Alert 3\Maps\" on Windows XP, 2000, 98, 95, or older. (Make sure to change "[USER LOGIN NAME]" with your login name, which can be found when you log into your computer or by clicking the start menu.)
PS: I only made this guide because I am sick and tired of people disconnecting as fast as they join my game due to EA's fault. Please fix this issue immediately. It's a real annoyance.
