Is there a patch for Command

Is there a patch for Windows 10 for C & C ?  Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge both keep crashing.  No probs on Windows 7.

  • There are, in fact, a bunch of patches. Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun have all been upgraded with community-created unofficial patches that fix a lot of their bugs and compatibility problems. For Red Alert 2 there's a more general patch that solves a lot of its graphics problems. You can find them here:

    Command & Conquer 1:

    Red Alert 1:

    Tiberian Sun:

    Red Alert 2:

    • The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve the "black screen" issue.
Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.

  • Thanks for suggestions, Nyerguds.  My 'black screen' problem is a bit odd for RA2 & Yuri's Revenge.  Windows 10 and its updates seem finally to have caught up with them !   These games load and play OK for a few minutes, then suddenly jump back to the intro screen which you click on to get the game started.  When I click it, that's when I get the black screen with sound only to show the game is carrying on without me !   Do you think your 'DDWrapper' procedure would work for this as well ?

  • PS - If the answer is yes to DDWrapper, do I extract the two files into the RA2/YR folder only, or into the whole C&C file ?

@Gnomo1946 There's no harm in trying. It's just a dll file you add into the game folder. It doesn't even overwrite anything. If it doesn't work, or somehow makes the problem worse... you can always simply remove it. I doubt it'll set your keyboard on fire or cause martians to land in your back yard 😉

As for where to extract it... that's fairly simple. For ALL games up to Red Alert 2, the only place where they ever find files is in the same folder where the game's actual program files are located. And since this is a fix specifically for Red alert 2, it's not advised to go around putting it in other folders (though the same dll is part of the fixes in the Tiberian Sun patch I think)
