Afternoon everyone,I've recently installed a copy of CnC3:Kanes Wrath (and Tiberium Wars), but am having issues attempting to load the game. I've tried running repairs, compatibility modes, as administrators and all combinations of the above. I have also attempted to repair the files and verify them, to no success. Attempting to load the game gets the same error - "Fatal Error", with the message "Exception in Exception Handler" as the content, twice. I have checked the system is capable of running the game, and meets the requirements. I can provide copies of the Error Logs and DXDiag files if necessary.

Hmm. Doesn't seem like there's anything specifically problematic in there. I know some of these games require some older DirectX components to be installed to run correctly; to be precise, the redistributable pack 9.0c, from 2010. Maybe this could fix your problem? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 [EDIT] The "Exception in exception handler" issue has been confirmed as a problem with certain drivers of the Intel HD graphics cards. The issue has been solved in the latest drivers, though, so update your drivers. [EDIT AGAIN] It seems the problem has reappeared in later drivers. The only solution that has been found so far is to downgrade the drivers to a version from around/before June 2014; the problem does not seem to appear in that driver. [YET ANOTHER EDIT] Note that if you have a dedicated graphics, like AMD or NVidia, then you should go into your graphics settings and make sure the program is specifically set to be handled by your dedicated graphics card.

That's kind of freaky. An error in the exception handling might be a problem in Windows itself rather than in the game. Are there any other games that have that problem?

Nope... just happens with Wrath, nothing else. As far as I can tell, everything that should be needed to run it is there... in fact, I've just come off of campaign for Tib Wars, which ran like a dream. Any idea's what might be triggering the error. I've tried copies on Origin and Disc versions (got disc versions first, was duplicated digitally when I picked up a copy of the Ultimate Collection), and it seems to affect both equally. It's really strange. I've put a copy of the event log and DXdiag files below.

Hmm. Doesn't seem like there's anything specifically problematic in there.

I know some of these games require some older DirectX components to be installed to run correctly; to be precise, the redistributable pack 9.0c, from 2010.

Maybe this could fix your problem?

The "Exception in exception handler" issue has been confirmed as a problem with certain drivers of the Intel HD graphics cards. The issue has been solved in the latest drivers, though, so update your drivers.

[EDIT AGAIN]

It seems the problem has reappeared in later drivers. The only solution that has been found so far is to downgrade the drivers to a version from around/before June 2014; the problem does not seem to appear in that driver.

[YET ANOTHER EDIT]

Note that if you have a dedicated graphics, like AMD or NVidia, then you should go into your graphics settings and make sure the program is specifically set to be handled by your dedicated graphics card.

Thanks Nyerguds - Seems that was what it was. Not sure why exactly, given that Tib Wars doesn't seem to need it, but I've just installed the redistributable pack you suggested and it's firing up perfectly fine now. You can be sure I'll be keeping that file somewhere safe in case of future problems!

I am having the same issue so I followed the link you posted and I downloaded the d3dx9_43_ x86 for MS runtime. I am not that technical of a user though. Any advice you could share as to how I extract this and install would be really appreciated!!!

Download the DirectX Redistributables package from June 2010. Be sure to uncheck any other junk they want to add to it. It should be a file called "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe".

Run the downloaded file. It'll ask for a folder to unpack in. Make a new folder somewhere on your disk and unpack it there. It doesn't matter where you unpack it; it can be deleted afterwards anyway.

Go to the folder where you told it to extract.

Find "DXSETUP.exe", and run that to install the missing components.

After the installation finished, delete the folder you unpacked everything in.

Is there any other solution to this problem? This keeps on happening to me almost every week and uninstalling the game doesn't work I have to restore the PC in order to get it fixed. I tried the with the DirectX Redistribution Package just now and nothing happened. I'd really appreciate the help guys.

Same here. I've tried every solution I could find, but nothing I've tried works. I'm using a steam version and running the game on Windows 8.1. Tried the DirectX files, tried installing them into the Kane's Wrath folder. Nothing. I'd really appreciate some help here guys! Thanks! This is one of my favorite games and I really want to play again. It worked before as a disk on a different laptop running Windows 7.
