Okay, I'm still trying to get this working but it seems like 1 step forward, 2 steps back all the time.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Various combinations of all the compatibility modes and settings etc.
- Installing outside of Program Files
- Some dodgy (probably virus-laden) no-cd .exes I found on a shady forum in a post from years ago (I know, I know - but I'm desperate here!)
- Installed SafeDisc Shim (and now I can't uninstall it so I'm stuck with it even if it causes problem further down the line)
- Tweaking various registry entries (I restored the original entries after testing)
- Installing XWIS because apparently it includes legal no-cd .exes... except it doesn't. There are none included anywhere.
- Trawling Wayback Machine for said XWIS no-cd .exes (none have been archived, though their listings have... which is really annoying)
- Trawling some very dodgy websites looking for other no-cd .exes
- Screaming into the wind
Nothing is working, and I've probably infected my PC with all sorts of nastiness. THIS is why DRM is pure scum!!! Legitimate, honest, PAYING customers are screwed over by it time and time again, whilst the pirates don't have to worry about it. It's backwards!
Anyway, I've exhausted every avenue I can think of now. Does anyone know of anything else I can do to get these favourite games from childhood working on Windows 10? I could really use a win right now. The whole reason I wanted to play them again was to help distract me through a rough time I've been having lately. As I said previously I can't afford to buy the whole collection and even if I could I don't want any of the other games in it - just RA2 and Yuri's Revenge. So unless EA want to sell me just those games (for a fair price) my only shot is getting them working on Windows 10. There must be a way seen as the exact same games work via Origin and Steam. Surely?
Thanks, and sorry for the rant!
@DoTheDonkeyKonga The entire collection often goes on sale for like $7 or something though. If that's not low enough, I'm not sure what you call a "fair price".
