Re: C&C: Generals / Zero Hour - Windows10 x64 Freezes every 10seconds
I would advice you guys to try a few things to fix the stutter/freezing issue. Follow the instructions in the box where the link turns you to (I practically made all that text on pcgamingwiki a while ago):
- Only if you have the Origin-version: make sure Origin in-game is disabled as it can cause problems with these games: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Generals#Game_does_not_start_or_is_very_slow_.28Origin.29
- Update all graphics card drivers from Intel, AMD and NVidia (whatever hardware you have) to make sure it works optimally with Generals.
- Make sure Generals is started with your dedicated graphics card. Do this by going into the settings of your graphics card, like NVidia control panel.
- Reinstall DirectX 8 to make sure it contains no error: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Generals#DirectX_8.1_error_.28Windows.29 (follow the "Install DirectX 9.0c"-instructions). Install it even when it says it is already installed.
- Install Gentool: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Generals#Gentool
- Remove/disable all compatibility-settings from the games executable (generals.exe). When set improperly, this could cause issues and it is not needed when you use Gentool as this already fixes compatibility issues.
- Use a D3d8to9-wrapper: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Generals#D3d8to9-wrapper I know, it technically is a workaround, but it makes the game a lot more stable as it converts all the old DirectX 8.1 commands to newer DirectX 9 ones. Could possibly resolve stutter-issues as it increases compatibility with modern graphics drivers.
Could you guys please report back if any of them worked? 🙂 When yes, which one?
