  • I've had Generals & Generals: ZH working on my Win 7, 64-bit system since they were installed a few years ago from Origin.  Not the Ultimate Collection.  Just the package with Generals and G: Zero Hour.

Yesterday I was installing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and found that my ripe old Radeon 15.7 drivers needed to be updated for the new (er) game to run.  I did so and it ran fine.  Later this same day, I went back to General: ZH,.  I was in the middle of a challenge and wanted to finish.  Only now I'm immediately rejected by this DX error!!!  After a frustrating hour of trying different things like reinstalling DX (11?), the latest I could find from MS, and deleting those DBGHELP.DLL files I read about, I've still had no luck.

The only thing that makes sense to me is for some reason with the new Radeon drivers (latest version, 20.11.2), either G:ZH or DX now thinks the drivers/card isn't compatible with the game.  Considering I was just playing it YESTERDAY, that's obviously wrong.  No idea what else to try, other than maybe see if I can switch back to the several year old version of AMD drivers.

Also for whatever reason, Generals works fine, though I didn't even try it before deleting the DBGHELP.DLL files.  Only Generals: Zero Hour is giving the the problem.
