Re: Red alert 2 locate ini file

@ImOOnI

You should really just enable extensions in windows; it'll make your life a lot easier.

That said, ini files should be the ones with a single cog wheel on them, indicated as "configuration settings" in the "type" column. And while I see the RA2MD one in there, I don't see an RA2 one. Did you actually run RA2 yet? I believe the file gets created by the game on first launch, and, given the fact RA2 and Yuri's Revenge have separate configuration files, you do need to run both of them to get both config files.

Also, do make sure to run the program in Administrator mode, otherwise the game won't get system permission to write in its own game folder (since you installed it under Program Files, where programs don't get write access normally) and the ini files will never get created.

  • Good afternoon

    please can you help me?

    i have followed the steps above, I have followed all the advice I have found on google but still nothing works.

    i have downloaded red alert 2 through origin, on a windows 10 laptop with NVIDIA graphics card.

    the only thing I have in my RA2.ini file is:

    [Intro]
    play = no

    thats it - please help!

    @KVicW1404

    What are you actually trying to do? What exactly is your issue?

    Note that a lot of the games have been upgraded with community-created unofficial patches that fix a lot of their bugs and compatibility problems. You can find them here:

    Command & Conquer 1:

    Red Alert 1:

    Tiberian Sun:

    Red Alert 2:

    • I advise installing the CnCNet online play installer for RA2/YR. Even if you're not interested in online play, it comes with a bunch of automatic fixes. It should automatically take care of the "black screen" issue, and has a configuration tool that allows further tweaking of the game's settings.

    Generals:

    • GenTool seems to be the main patch for Generals these days. The website is kind of vague on what it does besides restoring multiplayer and adding anti-cheat, but I heard it does a lot to make it work better on modern OSes too.

    Renegade:

  • So I have downloaded CnCnet but it only plays the Yuchi’s Revenge part and not the red alert 2 part? I downloaded the red alert 2 part from CnCnet so now I’m stuck?

    @KVicW1404 Can you please explain the problem you're having in more detail? Just "not playing" isn't enough haha
  • I tried to download and install the CC95V106CC_r3 patch, but the setup prog returns an error saying that the game does not exist in the folder, but I know it does because I can see in in my file explorer.

    I have also installed the TS203EN.exe patch which does not solve the issue.

  • Hi @mrtnptrs , I've installed the Origin version of RA2 & YR on Windows 10. The games (RA2 & YR) will reach the start menu, but there won't be any menu buttons. I need to end task to close it. I've changed the compatibility to XP Pack3, but when I open the RA2 and RA2MD .ini files, there are no contents. Both of them only have 2 lines:

    [Intro]

    Play=no

    There's nothing else for me to edit there. Would you know what I can do? Would really appreciate your help!

  • You're not reading what he's saying.  The RA2.ini config file is blank.  Mine is too.  Photos attached of what it should look like vs what it actually looks like.  If the games runs for you, can you post a copy of your RA2.ini file so we can copy and paste into our our own?  Please and thank you.

  • This is what we need.  Are the contents of the RA2.ini different from the RA2MD.ini or no?  Can you post the contents of RA2MD.ini for reference so we can compare or just copy/paste to be safe?  Thank you.  You are a prince!  We need 10 more just like you.

    Beware of downloading and installing GenPatcher. I used to have it set up so that I could run Generals on my Windows 10 device, but after I downloaded the last update from the official website, I encountered a Win32 virus within the installer. I have not used it since; I would prefer to live without playing Generals than risk my computer's safety.
