Re: Red Alert 2 run error

You could put a screenshot on imgur.com but that's redundant now, I understand the problem.

However I have no idea how to fix it. I'd suggest reinstalling if you haven't tried it already...

Thanks for trying.  Yes, I reinstalled and ran the install fix.  Seems like an odd problem.  I dont have it with RA3.

    Maybe this works?:

Vista/7 Users should install the game in Admin mode, to do this run Windows Explorer then browse to your DVD drive,
right click on Setup.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility > Tick "Run This Program as an Administrator". Also please install DrectX 9c for Windows Vista (32bit & 64bit)/Windows 7 (32bit) from the following link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en

For Windows 7 64bit download & install the DirectX SDK from March 2008:
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ng=en&id=10568
Load up both the 32bit and 64bit DirectX Control Panels and enable Hardware Acceleration:
Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK
Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities (64-Bit) -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK

This will mean that all the older versions of DirectX are correctly installed and should avoid problems (mainly with Renegade) of games loading and not showing anything but a black screen

That looked like it might work.  It seems to describe my problem.  Unfortunately, no luck yet.  RA2 and YR still show notihng in the menu buttons.  Thank you for your help.

That was a great suggestion.  Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work.  The part that I can't do using either suggestion is to detect a second monitor. I'm using a desktop and it only detects that monitor.  Maybe that has someting to do with it.

    Thanks for your help.

And maybe you can try this:

    • Right click on Desktop
    • Select Screen Resolution
    • Click Detect (with no additional monitor connected)
    • Next to your first display, you'll see a grey square with the text "Another display not detected" Click on the grey square
    • Next to "Multiple displays" it will say "No display detected"
    • Click on "No display detected"
    • A drop-down menu will appear
    • Select "Try to connect anyway on: VGA"
    • Click on your primary display (the square with the big "1" in it)
    • Next to "Multiple displays" select "Extend these displays"

Hit the Apply button and start Red Alert 2 and/or Yuri's Revenge.

Yes, I tried that with the other two methods.  Nothing happens when I click Detect.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

There's a kind of workaround: Alt-tab out of the game and then Alt-tab in again and you'll see the menu.

Thanks.  I did that.  It's just hard to use the pull down menus when you can't see the choices.

So you mean that Alt-tab doesn't resolve the problem?

Yes, the alt-tab does work as a work around but it's really time consuming.  Especially if you have to use the drop down menus to change the settings.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
