With all of the balance changes, has anything been mentioned about the Rockworm? These things are almost unstoppable. As soon as one enters the field, you've pretty much lost. Earlier today on...
There's still a major issue with that.
1.) I can't get that high in Nod medals because everyone at my tier is running the rockworm and killing everything. :P
2.) The counters to the rockworm are still too easy to take out. If I run an air unit to counter the rockworm, any anti-air unit crushes the air unit. Normally, this isn't a problem because you could, in theory, run something to target the anti-air units. But the rockworm will just kill your counter unit in one hit, leaving it relatively unscathed.
@Tarma2 I do agree that Nod Rockworm is a little on the strong side when the appropriate counter units are not available to combat them, this is a big issue around 400-1000 Nod or GDI. GDI in particular struggles with the Rockworm until they have the Orca or Kodiak with Missile Squads/Jumpjet Trooper. and Zone Troopers being a soft counter to them. But I am surprised to hear you have difficulty with them as Nod being that the Nod Cyborg is one of the more potent counters to the Rockworm as their EMP particle beams not only slow down the Rockworm if not before it retreats but also decreases its attack speed further reducing its combat effectiveness. Pair them with some anti infantry support such as Militants, Flame Troopers or Confessor Canals and you have a very tough pair that can almost handle anything thrown at it as Cyborgs counter any vehicle and aircraft threats, while your anti infantry squad handles your enemy infantry squads.
If by chance you cannot tech up the Nod Laser Soldiers in groups of two do a decent job of taking down a Rockworm just make sure if the Rockworm is coming to the missile control pad, if you can spare the time move them away one tile from the exit point of the Rockworm to avoid the Rockworm emergenance AOE damage to your anti vehicle troops.
If they are becoming an almost every game occurrence for your matches I would definitely consider training and when possible leveling up your Laser Soldiers or Cyborgs so you have more of an edge in terms of Health and Damage against the Rockworm.
Yeah, also as I've said elsewhere, keep the pressure on your opponent throughout the game, rockworms are only really good on the offense and incredibly expensive, I've seen too many lower medal players who sit back holding platforms while their opponent sits there making cheap units to throw at them while harvesting tiberium off of two unbothered harvesters until they can spam up a bunch of high tier units to sieze control at the last second. Aside from running and knowing how to use counters to threats, the biggest reason rockworms don't see much success in high level play is that things are constantly in motion, you're always pressing somewhere trying to get an edge on your opponent, micro of units becomes very important, second harvesters are a fairly risky proposition in many games and some of us never build more than one. The idea of spending 130+ (+ because you might not have a temple of nod) resources on a rockworm just becomes so much less viable when that is likely the only unit you'll be able to build for awhile and you're already dealing with a large variety of stuff attacking you on all fronts that a rockworm isn't likely to solve. The rockworm is an offensive unit, not a defensive one, it really isn't good if you're under pressure or behind.
Changing the unlock of the rockworm to somewhere around level 10 will go a long way to both people having counters to it and people getting enough experience with the game to keep up that sort of pressure to at least some extent that really makes making a rockworm a difficult and risky choice.
I'm a Tiberium League player, and the rockworm is in no way overpowered, as it can be taken out by cyborgs, zone troopers, and anything air. A Nod drone takes it out in a matter of seconds.
Coupled with the inability to hold a pad or break through a unit that occupies a spot on the map, it's one of the weirdest and hard to use units in the whole game, right there with the NOD scarabs (One of the worst units in the whole game).
I for one would like to see it get at least the break through ability (If the unit will get killed by the rockworm, allow it to surface).
That would make it at least usable.
