Strange Multiplayer issue in Zero Hour

I installed Generals and Zero Hour to my new Windows 8.1 x64 machine, and while the game runs fine in Singleplayer/Solo mode, when I join or create a Multiplayer match all the trees are swaying insanely fast(as if the animation is playing too fast) and my keyboard map controls are insanely fast, if I tap the arrow key in any particular direction the camera travels way too quickly. Same goes if I try to move the camera with the mouse. I only ever play Generals/Zero Hour over my Local Network with my housemate so right now it's unplayable for me. It looks to me that for some reason the Multiplayer Component of the Game is being run too fast.

Machine Specs:

Core i7 4770

Gigabyte G1 Sniper B5 Motherboard

EVGA GTX660Ti 2gb

6144mb Kingston HyperX DDR3 Ram @ 1333

Crucial 512gb SSD

The game ran fine under Windows 7, but I've recently upgraded my Motherboard and CPU, so that may also be an issue. Please help?

  • When my Dad plays it on our old HP PC, it runs perfectly fine. But when I play multiplayer on our new HP Pavillion, (which is meant for gaming) it has this issue. I think the computer just runs too fast???

It is even more efficient to use the Framerate-limiter in Gentool. This way you limit the Framerate and thus prevent this issue from occuring. Set the FPS at 30 for normal game speed. Gentool can be downloaded from here: https://www.gentool.net/

Edit: oops, see @Grefranger already proposed this solution too. It is btw a much better solution as this FPS limit will stay even if you completely reinstall the graphics driver.

  • Ok so I wanted to get back into this, so I decided to give GenTool a go.  I like what they've done, but the fact the tool stops the camera height fixes from working in a multiplayer game makes it absolutely useless.  The game is totally unplayable when you can see a total of 2 buildings on screen.  I wasted a few hours on this thinking I was doing something wrong but I final found out it seems to be by design.. I'm guessing they did it to force an even playing field in multiplayer matches?  Happy to be told I'm missing something here..but if I'm right - it's utterly useless.

I'm going to stick with my way for now.   For anyone reading this - this is what I've done:

    1. Install Zero hour from Origin (C&C Ultimate Collection)
    2. Google for GameData.ini with the camera height fix and add it to install directory "\Data\INI"

    3. Edit resolution in "\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Options.ini" I've set mine to "Resolution = 1920 1200"

    4. I found a "lag fix" which involves copying a custom "INIZH.big" into the install directory. Not sure if it helps but we'll see.

    5. Finally to stop the frame rate issue, i found the Nvidia tool didn't seem to be working so I've installed something else to limit the frame rate to 30FPS (RivaTunder Statistics Server)
