Why was the command and conqure franchise ended?
I know a few bad games where made at the end. That's developer error, the core concepts are still solid and relevant. The major downfall to the new games where limited choices and over powered units. The problem was that as other games grew, the franchise only improved graphics, and kept the same, and sadly less units to use. EA bought westwood studios, that was in vain and for nothing if they don't make more games.
What needs to be done is go and use real life examples, and keep things in perspective. Meaning C&C generals had a good mix of options, but it needs to be updated and expanded. with major and minor players added into the game. Improve the format of the game, so that you can have large and low scales of war.
First you need Russia in the game, you need America, China as the major powers, you need to have sub groups which are country and non country. for example the drug cartels, while you wonder how can this relate, well they are industrious, breaking a general out of jail, smuggling people and items, the mistake comes when you pit the cartels against a super power. You need to take countries like France, they have unique technology in fighter air craft, Isreal and its drones, North Korea and Cuba can toss in. Obviously terrorist groups. Toss in iran and many other countries and groups.
One nice format would be you start off in a specific area, lets say the Caribbean. America is the major player, but you have Cuba, you have the cartels, so for example you are given a independent mercenary style force. you could pick on a target, lets say you steal a littoral class ship from America, now you can sell it to Cuba, Russia, China lets say they all offer you money in exchange for giving them it. While nice to give it to Russia (the highest bidder) you sell it to Cuba because you have no chance of crossing the ocean in it and living. In exchange you get a small island from Cuba, can buy mig 17's, Ak 47's, patrol boats and T36 tanks.
Battles should be different, as well as troops on the map, what would be different is you have a base, and you send troops out into the world, and your base can also be attacked, by all the different countries and groups in game.
So you establish an air base, it would represent an airbase, and give a ton of options, you have runways and build hangars and roadways linking hangars to runways. So for example if you have a bear bomber or B52, you need a longer, wider runway (easier target) The game should have about 30 aircraft types, 10 tank types, countless ship types, and get away from infantry fighting, for the most part.
The tech should go from the Vietnam era to current, so F4, F5, Mig 17, Mig 21, hueys, M 8, Cobras. and you ratchet it all up so certain countries have certain equipment, most of them seeking the others technology.
So in the game your goal is to destroy all the countries and groups and be the sole survivor. Where you build yourself up until you win out. The idea being the battles take place, when 2 forces run into each other, you don't build at the conflict spot, you fight the war, and find more targets or return home. in some cases being followed and resulting in that base also being destroyed. if you set up a base for example on Ireland, without permission. the Nato countries will level that base.
You wouldn't be able to start out the gate attacking constantly anything that moves. you would get the Sadam Hussein treatment. starting as a super power is to easy, this game you need no story line, you start off as a small land army and continue to grow, with each choice resulting in consequences, both good and bad.
