yuris revenge upgrade issues

just had a forced upgrade as above, now cannot run in higher res and play screen is very cropped.

any ideas?

thanks

  • If it's the same as on Steam, then you need to do three things to enable higher resolutions:

    • In the game folder, edit "DDrawCompat.ini" and change the "SupportedResolutions" line by adding the option "native" to the end of the resolutions list (separated by a comma, as is done with the rest). This will make the compatibility layer accept all the listed resolutions, plus all resolutions natively supported by your system.
    • Edit "RA2MD.INI" ("RA2.INI" for the base game) and, under [Video], add "AllowHiResModes=yes". (The same works for Tiberian Sun, but there it's "SUN.INI".)
    • In the game, go to Options → Display, and set your desired resolution.

    This also happened to me. The new update that EA has done seems to have taken it all away whatever previous patches I had made. Now, I cannot file the notepad file that will allow me to edit to get higher resolution. Any ideas? If I do edit a file it says I don't have administrator privileges.

    Well, that just means the game is installed in a place where you require admin privileges to edit files, such as under the Program Files folder. The way to still edit that is to look up Notepad in your start menu, right click it, and select "run as administrator" (might be under the "More..." submenu). Then, in this administrator-mode Notepad, go to File -> Open, change the format from "Text Files" to "All Files", browse to your game folder, and open the file. Then you'll be able to edit it.

  • Thanks for that help with getting administrator privilege through the notepad app directly. Now, it still hasn't resolved all of the resolution issues. I'm not sure why I don't have that file that you have. I have the DDrawCompat-gamemd file as a text document (see image). The screen is still showing distortions of the layout, which seems to indicate this is something deeper than we can fix as players? Any other tips?

    I used to have the mod where I could have it full screen. It would stretch the opening EA symbol from a circle to an ellipse. But then everything else in the game would play nicely. I cannot find any notepad file to edit that would have those mods that I remember doing before. But it's been a year, and it seems with the new update on March 7 there are now additional things going on that we cannot change. Any other tips are welcome!

  • thanks for the suggestion, very much appreciate it, sadly it didn't help, game loads but still only offers the standard resolutions, should i have deleted them from the .ini file maybe?

  • correction to my earlier reply, it does work if you remember to save the file after edit !!!!!!!!!!!!!! many thanks.

    @Prayayom

    I heard that updates in Windows itself broke how these sliders work, so, not much can be done about that.

    There are fan-patches around, but they were all specialised in fixing the game as it was before the update, so a lot of them don't quite work right anymore. But the fan community is still as active as ever, so I'm sure new versions of these patches will roll out very soon.

  • After the update now the mouse only stays in the upper left quadrant of the screen.   WTF?  Anyone know what to do or if there will be a fix?  When I close the game EA app says it needs a repair.  After the repair, the same thing happens.
