Yuris Revenge won't work properly (Win7)

So I have a less than stellar laptop which I am attempting to run RA2/YR on (a Lenovo X220i thinbook).  It boots to the main menu in YR, like I expected it would.  Then when I'm in the main menu the animation on the left freezes on whatever quadrant its in (it does not advance to the next animation), and if I click a button it appears as if nothing happened.  But then I alt+tab to the desktop then alt+tab back to the game and I'm in the screen I clicked on.

I've tried adjusting the graphics settings in game, and the compatibility settings on the EXE file.  At best these changes do nothing, at worst the game doesn't even load.  I installed the game on a beefier laptop running Win7, and it works just fine there.

In my mind RA2/YR shouldn't have any problem running on a laptop which more than meets the inital specs from when the game was released in 2001.  Am I missing something here?  Thanks!

Sadly, this mindset is completely, completely wrong. Minimal specs don't mean anything for old games. They have way more chance to simply not work well on systems that are far newer than the one they were designed for.

As for your problem, there are a couple of things you can try...

    1. The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve graphics issues. Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.
    2. Open the properties of the game's executable (yuri.exe/ra2md.exe) and go to the compatibility tab. Make sure to disable the "Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings" option. For RA2/YR, it's also advised to run the game in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode.
  • Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work.  I installed the DWwrapper files and checked the compatibility settings, and all that did was open to a blank screen when I opened YR.  The HD indicator light indicates something is working, but its a clank screen.
