Can't stomp or anything else

I'm no great gamer, but I’ve conquered Quake & Halo on Xbox & PC. On Deadspace 2 I can't make it to the 1st checkpoint. Only the WSAD &shift keys do anything. Neither space nor mouse buttons do any...

    No,no,no. When you cross the door and fall on the ground, you have to keep tapping repeatedly on the "E" key until the monster get's sqwashed by the door.

Thanks glussier! Once I got past that point I learned a lot more and am now making decent progress. Thanks for taking the time to help out a novice. I was so frustrated! Sorry it has taken so long to let you know I took your advice. My plate has been pretty full lately and I just got back to this today.
