Dead Space 2 - Windows 10 compatibility issues?

My PC specs:

Intel Core I7-4790k 4ghz, 16gb DDR3 1866mhz

Sapphire tri fan OC  r9 390x 8gb GDDR5

120gb SSD

1tb Seagate 7200rpm HDD

Windows 10 64bit - Full License

Z97 gaming motherboard

Corsair Bronze 750w PSU

I can launch Dead Space 2.  It'll load to 1024x768 resolution menu, so as you can understand, it looks murky.  When I change resolution to 1080p and crank up the details to max, the screen goes blank and the game becomes unresponsive.  The menu music continues to play though and I have to ctrl-Alt-Del (this is awkward, especially as the game decided to outright overlap my windows screen).

I'm guessing that there is some form of compatibility issue.  2 questions:

1.  Are EA going to possibly fix this?  Being a 7 year old game, it wouldn't surprise me if they told me to shove it

2.  Is there a workaround?

max compatible resolution is 1680x1050 60Hz

competition resolved this problem just run the game from their platform first time automatically will corrects errors when verify direct x and VC

is a little lacking in libraries when it comes to 1080p resolution for older games

now i can launch dead space 2  using the resolution 1920x1080

@averagegilo we are still working on the compatibility especially with our Origin client, which will affect also various of our Origin client based games. There might also some additions with future Direct X and Windows updates, have you already tried to launch the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode?

    Cheers

    Hello @Thornbush

Thank you for sharing this solution with us. And have a good time cutting through those necromorphs!

  • Feeling pretty dumb but I don't quite know what you mean by this.

    Having issues playing this game on a rig with a RTX 3080 and an Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700, 2100 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 20 Logical Processor(s).

I have an older rig with a Ryzen 7 3070 and a GTX 1650 and the game works on that.

I would rather be able to play the game on my newer/main PC but I am at a loss and have tried everything I have read online with no luck.

It is really annoying as Dead Space and Dead Space 3 boot and play fine just not 2.

Any assistance on this would be appreciated.

The game loads to a black screen with the mouse showing the hour glass for about 5 second's then the game closes automatically and returns to the desktop.
