Dead Space 2 Singleplayer Menu Crash

Whenever I select singleplayer on the main menu it starts to go through the animation to the next menu and then freezes. I have contacted EA support before and went through the process of updating drivers and removing temporary files which did not help. Another time I was told to select a repair option on the installer, which I can't seem to find. I am able to play multiplayer without any problems whatsoever.

I contacted EA again recently and i was told to delete temporary files again and other files in the prefetch folder. I assume that this is a unique problem as I have not come across another with the same issue.
I will be contacting EA support again with additional system information, I just wondered if anyone has also had the same problem and knew a solution. After completing Dead Space 1 I'm desperate to play the second!

  • Hi futuramafry,

You said you already went through several steps with EA Game Advisors. Just to cover all the basics: Did they also tell you to delete your settings.txt  file for the game? If not, this is how you do that:

    1. Double-click on the My Computer icon from your Windows desktop or Start menu.
    2. Double-click on your Local Disk (usually C:).
    3. Double-click Program Files.
    4. Double-click on Electronic Arts.
    5. Double-click on Dead Space.
    6. Delete the file settings.txt.

Be sure to enable the option View hidden files and folders. Otherwise, you may not be able to find the settings.txt file. To do this or ensure your viewing setting is turned on, follow the steps below:

    1. Double-click on the My Computer icon from your Windows desktop or Start Menu.
    2. From the toolbar, select Tools and then select Folder Options.
    3. Select the View tab and then select the option Show hidden files and folders, which is located in the Advanced Settings section.
    4. Select Apply and then select OK at the bottom of the dialog box.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Ursula
