Is your whole machine crashing? Please check for any card driver updates, and for any windows updates.Ensure that your machine is using your discrete card, and not swapping to low-power mode.

Thank you for answer EA_David 🙂,

Thanks, though this isn't a good sign. If the whole machine is shutting down, that suggests a hardware or driver failure. There could also be issues with the Windows system files, but the OS reinstall should sort that out. The fresh driver install should also rule out driver issues.

This would suggest to me a potential hardware issue. Do any other 3D games(that would use the discrete card) crash?

One time ok, but now 2 black screen ☹️

  • It sounds like the laptop might be overheating. Either that or like EA_David said is switching back to a lower power video chip. Make sure that the Nvidia Control Panel (NVCP) is set to be the primary graphics. Also make sure your fans and everything are cleared out.

Try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3 as in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Dead-Space-3/Black-screen-on-startup/m-p/478224#M678

    • Right click the executable: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dead Space 3\deadspace3.exe
    • Click the Compatibility tab
    • Tick the box to Run in compatibility mode for and choose Windows XP Service Pack 3
    • You may as well choose to Run as administrator below also
    • Click Apply
    • Try to start the game via Origin
