    I just downloaded this game and was getting the "Failed to initialize display hardware" error. I was browsing through some of the solutions when I realized that for some reason there was not settings.txt file for the game in the appropriate location. Once I created the settings.txt file in the appropriate folders (had to create the Electronic Arts and Dead Space folders) the game fired right up.

    Go to:

    Users/"your user name"/AppData/Local/Electronic Arts/Dead Space

    and created a settings.txt file

    I found one someone had shared and used that to get my game started:

    Audio.AltNameColor = false
    Audio.MusicVol = 1.00000000
    Audio.Output = 0
    Audio.SFXVol = 1.00000000

    Of course!
    In Battlefield 4, for example, I have ultra settings. I'm asking specifically about the operating system. Or what could be a reason of this error?

    OS Windows 8, x64

    Videocard: GeForce gtx660

    Processor: Intel Core i5 2500

    Check that the game is not trying to use your on-board video hardware and do a clean reinstall of your video drivers.

    In your GPU control panel under 3D Application Settings for both GPU makers there is a button that allows you the 'Add' a program. Click this Add button and then choose the .exe file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Deadspace\Dead Space.exe) for the game, click apply.

    After playing all the Dead Space games on my old Windows 7 machine without problems I was looking forward to re-installing them on my new much faster,

    much more powerful Windows 8 machine and playing them again. But no, not one of them works. Not One! I cannot believe it. I have literally wasted a whole

    day trying to get them to work to no avail. So disgusted now that I un-installed the lot and then un-installed that god-awful origin. I will NEVER buy an EA game

    again. If and when Dead Space 4 comes out I won't buy it, even though I love the Dead Space series. EA you seriously need to get these problems sorted. What

    the hell is the point of game studios creating great games that we then cannot even run?
