Problems at the store/shop - "not connected to EA server. Additional unlockable items may not be available for purchase" - HELP PLEASE!

Hi. I wonder if someone could kindly help me please before I end up tearing my hair out?! 🙂

I have just purchased this great game after having played Dead Space 1 a number of times and thought it would be great to play number 2 before I then purchase and play the latest Dead Space 3 game.

I have installed the game without problem. It went through the "First Run of Dead Space 2 Release Rate Check" without any problems. I put in the serial number from the back of the manual and received "activation successful" so far all was good and I was excited to play.

However when I get to the first store/shop (or whatever you want to call it) and tried to go into the buy part of the store (the store in the game of course), I got the message as in the title of this post - "Not connected to the EA server. Unlockable items ... "etc. So all I had available to me was a refurbished plasma cutter and the engineering suit. Nothing else at all! ☹️ No health packs, stasis packs, ammunition, power nodes etc. Having purchased this original game via Amazon and having been looking forward immensely to playing it for almost a week (it arrived today), I'm now having this problem and I don't know why. I even played through again to the same point starting a new save in case somehow that might have been the problem but of course that made no difference and I got the same message. ☹️

PLEASE could you kindly advise me what might be wrong and how this can be fixed? I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you. Nick

PS Perhaps I should mention the game was second hand, not new. Would that make a difference? I don't see why it should. I can naturally provide you (or whoever I'm advised) with both the serial number from the back page of the manual as well as a number listed inside the back page at the bottom of the warranty page on page 16 which starts EAE. I could also supply the number on the DVD itself, starting EAY.

Thanks again.

I don't know if these 2 issues are related or not but from the main menu there is an option called Extras. Clicking on it gives redeem content or credits. Clicking redeem content (because I'm not sure what it does or offer so I was curious to find out), it asks for the EA username and password. I put those in and got a message - "Login failed. Another account has already been activated." and so on. As I said, don't know if the 2 issues are related or not but in the meantime while I'm waiting for some advice/help on my main message, I will contact support (https:\\help.ea.com\contact-us which I have seen advised elsewhere in these forum posts. Just figured the more info I can leave here, the better/easier it might be to help and assist me. 🙂

    Thanks again in anticipation, Nick

PS Just noticed I never mentioned which platform I'm playing this on - A PC desktop running Win 7 64 bit Ultimate edition. 😕mileywink:

It seems there's over an hour wait for live chat (support) and the UK phone support service isn't open for another 7 hours. It says out of hours to use this place (Answer HQ) so I'll just keep a watching brief here for now. 🙂

I have now been able to use Live Chat to speak to a customer service representative who informs me that even providing proof of purchase, he is NOT able to reset the account or issue me with another product code/serial number and that my only recourse is to buy a new game! Having read in several replies in this form/Answer HQ to the contrary (just contact customer services and provide proof of purchase), I'm afraid my customer service advisor told me he could not do that?!

So whether that 'policy' has changed or not or whether other advice given was wrong/misguided, I've no idea.

Anyway seems nothing can be done to help me so I have to fork out for a new one. Oh well, should have done that in the first place I guess but didn't think there would be a problem. ☹️
