Random black screens in Dead Space 2

Hey all, I recently came back to try and play DS2, and I'm running into an issue where the game will randomly go completely black for a few seconds at a time, but while the game can still be heard running in the background. Don't have this problem on any other games, not even on DS1. Can't find anything about this anywhere on the internet; just a general "permanent black screen on startup" which I'm not getting, and the fixes for that don't help anyways. Anyone have any advice? I've already tried verifying files to no avail, and tried a settings config file replacement to again no avail.
