Ensure that both you and your friend have an Open NAT type. A Strict NAT type can cause connectivity issues. Some players have resolved the issue by using a VPN service. Download a VPN, turn it on, and disable the firewall within the VPN app before starting Dead Space 3. Create a Public co-op session instead of a Private one, and have your friend join through the “Browse Friends Games” option in the co-op menu. Change the default Origin generated ID/Nickname to something shorter and re-add your friend. Make sure applications like Steam and Origin are completely closed down before starting the game with a VPN. Fidelity NetBenefits

Let us know if this helps! VPNs can be tricky with support because they don't belong to EA, so most issues around a VPN are very limited.
