A tale of two platforms (PS3/PC); or, how fate doesn't want me to finish DA:O

I actually wanted to play this game so much I went out and got it for PC AND PS3 (after my PC version glitched repeatedly on the elf/mage story line preventing me from exiting the basement and continuing the story, even after multiple re-installs).  I am now literally stuck just after killing the Desire Demon in Connor after confronting him on the second level of Redcliffe Castle (on the PS3).  This is after numerous issues with the game freezing or simply refusing to load at all (with my PS3 throwing out a "scratched disk" error or refusing to acknowledge the disk―no problems with any of my other games though).

Am I just doomed to never ever finish this game even once?

  • @absimthe Well, I don't know about the PS3 issue, as I've never played on console. However, usually on PC there are ways around such issues using console commands (it's not cheating if you're just getting around a bug), although it may sometimes mean you missing some bits of the story (such as conversations) depending on the options.

Is the bug you're having with the Origin part of the story (before going to Ostagar) or later on, when you go to recruit the mages or templars?

For the mage origin, the debug script is zz_bhm_debug, for the tower quest later in the game it's zz_cir_debug. Use these codes at your own risk (and save beforehand), but I'm guessing you don't have much to lose if you're stuck in a basement and can't progress.

Are you using mods in your PC game? Some mods can cause bad bugs or break the game, so might be something to think about.

Hope that helps, let us know if you have questions or any other issues. 🙂

Thanks! I've actually given up on the PC (I have a lot of games and quite frankly have invested so much time into it that I just can't be bothered dealing with any more debugging) but it looks like my PS3 issue was tentatively resolved with a new disk. At any rate I've been able to progress quite far in the story before the game froze although yes, I have missed quite a lot of cut scenes because that's where it seems to cause issues.
