Advisor missions 20 or more hours long?
Many of my missions are 20 or more hours long and reset every time I shut my xbox down is there a way around this?

They reset? Okay, obvious, but you save after you assign the missions and turn off the xbox right? Also, try adjusting your system's clock. There are weird time glitches for some people and that usually fixes it...
