Blackwall has disappeared from skyhold in my game. I am trying to do a quest that requires me to talk to him but after the first talk sequence between us he disappears. i have tried reloading the game, turning off my xbox, going out in the world and nothing works, he still isn't there.
I'm suffering from the same problem. The map tells me he should be somewhere at the stables, but physically he's nowhere to be found. Cassandra seems to have disappeared as well, like she did in Haven, too.

He vanished once we reached skyhold in my case at first I thought it was just more pop in, many of the others would vanish but would reappear if i went away and came back some times popping in right beside me, both in haven and skyhold they do this. He was the only one who stayed vanished all the time fortunatly repairing my game seems to have fixed the issue and he's back at his spot all thou still got the temporary vanishing. But while annoying I can live with that.
Mine isn't there either. Which is pretty great since I can't advance my romance now, b/c the gift quest requires me to talk to him. I also haven't done his personal quest. So yeah, I will never give Bioware another dime...

Pretty sure this isintentional. Blackwall disappeared for me too. I don't remember the exact prereqs, but I think I did a war room mission that led to information about Ranier. Blackwall disappears, if you talk to Leliana and search around the stables, I found a letter from Blackwall, and a NPC appears to deliver it, mentions Blackwall was seen heading out.
Basically this starts a quest to search for him, and he ends up in Val Royeux. I don't want to spol much else, so just look around the stable area and talk to Leliana perhaps, I believe that's how I triggered it.
Edit: note that you'll know if this is your issue if Blackwall is no longer selectable from the party screen (had a big X over his card)
It can sometimes happen. Some of my npc dissapear and reappear randomly (Blackwall, Cole, Cassandra even Varric). What you can do is fast travel between areas or save the game near missing companion and reloading it. Sooner or later they will load properly. I had to try for two days for Blackwall to load in the stables. It is frustrating.
I've had this problem happen with several NPCs: Blackwall, Cole, Leliana, Varric, and Cassandra. It's very annoying and immersion-breaking. Fast-Travelling and loading save games CAN resolve the issue, but it's not a guaranteed thing. Sometimes if you wait a while they'll come back, too. I've tried each of these solutions four or five times in a row and not had them spawn.

I have not seen Blackwall at Skyhold since I first arrived there. Its been like 30 hours of game time. This is not quest related. His character icon shows up, as does the diamond indicating where he is to turn in quests to him.
It is supremely annoying, and as I've posted elsewhere, none of the "fixes" work to bring him back - not saving, teleporting, standing around hoping he'll show up, hopping up and down humming a minstrel tune, nothing. He is, of course, available to select as a companion when I'm running around.
This is a major pain and it cuts out his personal quests, conversations, etc. with him. Would be great to get word on a patch. *hint hint*
I had the same problem where Blackwall disappeared from Skyhold. I'd talked to him several times there before and finished his side quest. I wasn't able to find any letter by searching and shutting off the game and turning it back on didn't work. I tried someone's suggestion of saving in the barn and reloading and suddenly, he was back in his usual spot. I triggered two more cut scenes with him (the last one was him getting a drink with the Inquisitor and talking about a dog) and then my search indicator popped up in the barn showing me a letter pinned to the rocking-griffon he was making. Then, within seconds, a messenger showed up with a note for me and confirmed he was gone. I selected his inner circle quest and that's how I got to his special scene where you learn more about him.
Two possibilities:
1. You reached the part in the game where this is supposed to happen. There should be a messenger at the stables who you should talk to.
2. You have the disappearing companions glitch. Go inside the keep and come back.
Also keep in mind that his map marker is static, while Blackwall moves around the stables. He's not always in exactly the same spot.
