I never had this happen before. What happens if you walk away and come back? Hopefully this resets his her location.

Druffy is supposed to follow you, so get "behind" him and head back toward the river/gully/whatever. Just *away* from the eventual destination. He should "unstick" himself and get back to where you can lead him toward his pasture again. (As @DarkAmaranth1966 said, "Walk, don't run/jump/skip!")
To be honest, I'm not sure why Druffy is considered a prize animal. She's the worst BioWare animal since that cow in Mass Effect that can milk itself and steals your change.
