Do you have your Origin client in a language that is not English? If yes, please try this:
- Uninstall DAO.
- Change the language of your Origin client to English (Origin --> Application Settings).
- Download the game again. You should now get a selection of languages to choose from.
This just happened with me. I confirmed my client is not set to German, and it downloaded other games just fine. Bandwidth isn't exactly free with my ISP, so I can't just randomly try changing languages around (which shouldn't even be a problem for me in the first place) to download again.
Is there a fix to this, or at least a way to change the language in game? I can't read the menus so...
Hey,
I happen to have the exact same problem as the original poster but Origin language change does not work for me. It still lists German as my only option. Is there any trick to it?

Go to Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Settings and find the DragonAge.ini. If it is not there you need to run the game at least once. Open the DragonAge.ini with notepad and find the lines:
Locale=de-de
VOLanguage=de-de
You want to change them to:Locale=en-us
VOLanguage=en-usSave the file changes in notepad, then exit notepad and reload Dragon Age.
That should fix your problem.

This does not work at all for the downloaded version.
The Origin download lacks all of the language files but german.
I believe the only way to get this fixed is to contact EA Support to get the language changed?
Even with codes from the UK retail DVD I can only choose German as only language.
Tried to install the en-us language file from DVD but ended up with a corrupted installation after Origin tried to "repair" the game.
The Origin client is set to english as all my other Origin games are.
DA: O seems to be the only game with this strange issue.
Actually I'm awaiting an answer from EA support.

I managed to fix this issue. Go to where you installed Dragon Age (Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age) and click on the bin_ship folder. You SHOULD see a file called DAOriginsConfig. Run it, then click on the Video tab. The last two dropdown options are Language settings.
Just select 'Englisch' for both, click on the 'Dragon Age: Origins' tab on the top and select the first option (Einstellungen speichern) to save your settings. Then exit. It should be English once you reload.- Anonymous12 years ago
This looks good on the first sight, but the only two options to chosse from are de-de and Deutsch which is the same in the end.
Problem is I lack the language files usually installed under \Origin Games\Dragon Age Origins\packages\core\audio\vo.
I have the files on the DVDs and patchfiles, but how to get them installed so the Origin install will accept them?
Spoke to EA-Germany support in between: The support guy told me he has no option for the language selection on his sid, even after consulting an "expert". He suggested a complete uninstall followed by a ccleaner run and a fresh install.
Will try this later because my bandwith is limited and a fresh install will take allmost an overnight download.
Will post again if there is any change, but I doubt there will be any choice from German during the install...

Thanks SomeLameSilver. It helped me! In my case I had two languages 'en' and 'ru'. And I just selected 'en' .
This worked, thanks a bunch!

Can't you offer downloadable language packs? You already have the files and it would be much easier this way.
