Just adding my experience just in case if it helps. Played 60 long silent hours out in the world (didn't occur to me it wasn't supposed to happen, thanks for bringing up this bug!).
I have the PC Deluxe Edition.
I mainly used Dorian, Cassandra, Sera, Cole, and Varric.
Cole commented the most on things that occured. (Everywhere, him alone though)
Cole had banter with Cass twice in total, both times with the same dialogue. (Storm Coast)
Cassandra and Dorian talked about Tevinter twice, at least they were different the two times. (Storm Coast)
Varric talked to Dorian about writing a book about everything that is happening. Occured once. (Hissing Wastes - or somewhere sandy at least xD)
