I have a Japanese keyboard, and the key above the tab is used to enable / disable the system IME. Once you hit that key, the OS gets in the way of the keyboard and things act slightly differently. So, you simultaneously enter console mode, AND, change the code of that key. You cannot get out of console mode.
This is not ~. ~ is somewhere else on Japanese keyboards, and, does not enable or disable the console. Clearly it is a scancode issue and not a character mapping.
This is a game stopper for me. Quickly hitting tab in combat makes me hit that key by accident REGULARLY. This makes me have to shut the game down.
The fix is easy - please let us remap the console key like we can other keys.
I found a relatively easy solution for Windows users, and it should work for any IME keyboard (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc.). This should work on Windows XP+, but I tested on 8.1
Go into control panel and install a second keybaord in software, the us ENG standard keyboard. Make sure your regular one is the default.
Before running DAI, change keyboard. You can do this by clicking on the icon in your task bar for the IME. Alternatively, press ALT+SHIFT and it will change. Careful - your IME is off and your symbols are messed up.
In DA, now all your keys work well, and the console is fixed. YAY
