Continous random crashes

Hello guys,

Umm I have a huge crashing rampage on Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition to the point that the game is unplayable anymore. At first it was a few random crashes with the everlasting flickering textures and red square texture where blood under bodies should be but now that I arrived in Denerim the game has gone to complete *.Basically i cant leave the city because when i select the world map the game crashes instantly, sometimes it happens when i select inventory, sometimes when i enter houses, sometimes just randomly , but it happens in a range of a few minutes maybe a bit more and i cant play it at all, the local map and denerim map work good no problem there. Also Frame buffer effect makes the textures flick and glitch. And every time after a crash i cant load my recent saves anymore cuz it crashes again in loading screen, i have to load an old save THEN i can load my last save and play again for a few minutes before it crashes sudently again.I dont know what to do so if anyone can please tell me I bought DAO ultimate and DAII and Inquisition so i can make a start to end story spree and i have to say i dont want to start another story just to be fked by glitches and crashes and hours of replaying .

My rig is an ASUS ROG GL752VW gaming latop with an Intel i7 6700HQ Skylake processor, a GTX 960m 4GB, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB storage 7200 rmp, 250 GB SSD storage intel, running on windows 10 pro 64bit.

I tried reinstalling the game and still has the same bugs, i verified the game files, its running on origin and its a digital download, i have it on disc but i used the code to download instead of using the disc install.I checked if its a laptop temperature issue and its not, i installed dx again, updated my drivers, even uninstalled graph drivers and installing them to latest versions.Tried to record to see if theres a sound crash and ans not.

I cant find any patterns in the crashes  cuz i could`ve find a way of fixing them but the random crashes throw me off. Also some performance issues from time to time where its gets suddently laggy for a few secconds but that doesnt happen too often and i dont really care for that much.

I never encountered bugs like this before in a game and hell when the game came out and i bought it that time too it ran without any problems.

Thanks in advance.

  • A friend of mine had this issue. He had 16GB RAM so we used "NTCore's 4GB Patch" to fix it. The thing is that, it may not work with your PC because of the DDR4 memory. Try to install the patch anyway and see what will happen.

Maybe Windows 10 is the reason for the crashes, My friend downloaded the game and has it running with no problem on windows 7 with the patch instaled. I'll look for a win 10 fix and will post again here.

Sry dude, but I couldn't find a fix for windows 10. BioWare have other projects going on so I gues that they will never fix it. Leave the question open, maybe someone else might have a solution to your problem.

  • Been playing DAO on Win10 (64bit) since the days of the first Win10 release in 2015. There's been absolutely no problem getting it to run.

In fact, just finished my umpteenth playthrough (more than 20 now and counting) this week while beta testing another player's big Fix Pack mod.

    Specs: ASUS Z97-C m/b, Intel i7 4770 CPU, ASUS GTX 1060-6GB GPU, (was a GTX 770-2GB until a few months ago) 16GB DDR4 RAM @ 2133MHz, 1TB EVO 850 SSD, and WIn10 Pro (64bit).

So it's not the OP's rig.  It's probably some other software, or a strange hardware/driver combo.

    1.  Check that the laptop is really using the nVidia GPU, and not the Intel HD one that's probably also present (use the nVidia Control Panel to check/set.)

    2.  Disable any "Synapse" software and swap out any Razor (or Steelcase) keyboard. Reported to be problematic.

Yes i made default for origins the nvidia GPU and not the intel but still no fix...game randomly crashes all the time I just pulled through and finished it so I can continue the story.Sadly i wanna start another story but i dont wanna be frustrated with the game instead of having fun.THanks for trying to help me.

  • Your issues sounds remarkably like mine. It started crashing randomly on an irregular basis. Now I can't even get into the game because it crashes on load up (after I played for a few hours on it earlier today -- now it's unplayable). Try going to back to previous saves? Still doesn't work. Want to finish the game (only about 1/2 way through) and I'm frustrated that I paid for it and now can not play it. ☹️

I was having this exact same issue with a similar system setup.  I was about to give up, but I found a fix - run the game in Administrator mode.

The way I do it is navigate to the actual executable (the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship).  Right click on "daorigins.exe" and choose "Run as administrator".  Since then, I haven't had a single crash, and I have all my video settings maxed now.  You have to do this every time you run this (you might be able to make a shortcut that does this automatically, but I'd try it first to see if it fixes your problem).

    Hope it works for you.

Yup.  Same problems.  Game loads then randomly crashes or I can't get it to load my my recent games.  Also I've had screens where the textures are red, green, yellow...just a total eyesore.  I am seriously frustrated too!

I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Dragon Age: Origins, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
