Crashing on Startup

Dragon age inquisition crashing on startup, I get a black screen for a couple seconds then back to desktop

All drivers are updated and my pc meets specs, and I don't get any error message

    @xx_mistraven_xx Sounds like you might have a different issue than the others on this thread, the AVG issue doesn't cause lag or crashing mid-game. It could possibly be the reason the game isn't starting now (though, as DarkAmaranth said, this would be the first time we're seeing it on an AMD GPU), so if you use AVG it's worth trying adding an exception or temporarily disabling it.

    Do you have the game set to use Mantle or DX11? Sometimes switching that setting can help. Also, with AMD cards it sometimes helps to turn off the Shader Cache for the game in Radeon Settings (Radeon Settings > Gaming > Dragon Age Inquisition > Profile Graphics, you'll find the shader cache setting in there).
    If you can't get the game to load, try deleting the ProfileOptions_profile file from My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Saves. This will reset the graphics options for the game, so if it's one of those causing an issue, hopefully it will let the game load.

    Have you checked if there are any new drivers for your GPU? If there are, be sure to do a clean install (instructions in Fred_vps post at the bottom of this sticky).

  • Opening a lot of exclusions for DAi on avast worked for me, as suggested!  Grateful =)

    I had the same problem and if you use AVG (Like me) then just create an exception for DA:I and it should run perfectly 🙂

    If it doesn't I'm not sure what problem you then have.

  • Holy damn, WEEKS of trying to figure this junk out and all I had to do was put an exception in my avast >__< thank you!!

    I was having the same issue, and it seems the common denominator is AV software. I was running Avast! AV, choose to disable the shields for 10 minutes, and the game booted up just fine.

    I had disabled Avast temporarily before thinking that would fix it but it didn't. Didn't think making an exclusion to dragon age inquisition would make a difference but it did! So you have to specifically make an exclusion with your AV (Avast and AVG tend to be problem for most people it seems) instead of just disabling it.

  • I confirm that Avast is the cause for crashing at startup on Windows 10.

    Just disable temporaly Avast and the game will lauch.

    @dedood2008

    Not exactly sure what you wrote...I think you meant It didn't work for you, in which case I would ask that you post Dxdiag and data requested in the how to post to get a answer sticky post at the top of the forum.  Mostly what I need is DxDiag and exactly what it is doing and when.

    If this isn't what you were saying, then sorry, and please feel free to post back with a correction to my assumption..
