DA:I Crash on Startup

I've had Dragon Age: Inquisition since February 4, so for 3 months now. I have never had any issues with it. I shut the game down normally two nights ago. When I brought it back up the next morning, I clicked "play" and the blue loading circle came up beside my cursor (it normally does not do that,) the game launched for a split second, and then crashed back to desktop. I tried again several more times, same issue. I've scowered the forums and have tried everything I've come across. I've tried:
-Deleting my last few save files, thinking something might be corrupted.
-Repairing the game, and checking for updates.
-I can't get it in window mode, seeing as I can't even make it to the bioware logo.
-I've run as administrator.
-Disabled all mods.
-Disabled Origin in-game.
The only thing I haven't done is uninstall/reinstall. The first time I installed this game, it took 51 hours. I don't want to deal with that again, unless I absolutely have no other choice, and then it could not even work. This is so frustrating.

  • @Faithaclese Do you use AVG? If so, there is currently an issue some people using AVG are having, there are plenty of posts about it here on the boards if you want more detailed info, but in short, you can add an exception to your AVG (more info here) or just temporarily disable AVG protection by right clicking AVG in the system tray and selecting 'temporarily disable AVG protection'.

If you don't use AVG, please post a dxdiag, there are instructions in the spoiler tag of this sticky. It also mentions other information which may be helpful to include, though you've included most of that already 😉

Good luck, let us know how you go 🙂

    I got the same problem.

Bought this game two day ago and it worked fine, but today the game crashes. I get a black screen for a split second then i'am booted back to the origin library.

I have tried eveything Faithaclese have and nothing has worked

@Northern_Frieze Did you try temporarily disabling AVG protection (right click it in the system tray, next to the clock, and select 'temporarily disable AVG protection')? Just to make sure that's not the cause of your issue. Some people have found the only thing that fixed it for them was uninstalling AVG altogether, there are other free AV programs, such as Avast or BitDefender, that you could try instead.

Nothing really stands out on your dxdiag, though I'm tired and my brain isn't working so well at the moment, so I could be missing something. 😛

You've tried everything Faithaclese mentioned? Have you tried deleting the profileOptions_profile file from your save folder? If you're using any command line arguments, try removing that (if you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm guessing you're not using one, so don't worry about it).

  • I have the same problem.

DAI never worked properly, because my PC is quite old and doesn't reach all the proper requirements, but I managed to make it work at day 1 after updating NVIDIA drivers.

Now I had to reinstall everything on my PC and suddenly DAI doesn't want to start anymore. I changed many parameters (mainly about the use of the graphic card and performance of the pc) and it worked a couple days ago. Today I tried to start it again, but nothing. I see a dark screen, maybe the cursor changes to DAI style and then I go back to the desktop without any error message.

I don't know what happened between the day I played and today, because I didn't touch anything.

@monicasubzero Do you use AVG? If so, try adding an exception for the DAI executable in AVG, or temporarily disabling AVG protection by right clicking it in the system tray and selecting 'temporarily disable AVG protection'.
If you don't have AVG, please see this sticky about what information would be helpful to us, and post a dxdiag as described in the spoiler tag. Thanks 🙂

  • Hi!

Yes, I use AVG and I did as you suggested and it worked.

It seems there was an update for AVG in the past days that could be the source of the problem.

    Thank you so much!
