Dai suddenly crashing in combat

Not entirely sure what's going on but for some reason my game's started crashing in combat. In most instances the entire game closes, occasionally showing a black screen with the logo in the bottom corner, other times it will just go to the main menu with the message "you have lost your connection to the session"

I've managed to load a previous save and it seems to be working normally in that so i'm guessing the crashing is being caused by either a skill i unlocked when levelling up my characters or some effect from a weapon or armour I'm using

Are there any particular skills or weapon/armour effects that are known to crash the game? In my broken save I made my inquisitor a champion so maybe that.

In case it helps, I'm playing the steam version and I'm using a duel wield warrior inquisitor, vivienne, cassandra and cole

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Edit: Just had it crash again but this time it actually gave me an error message :D

Not sure what it means though, do I just need to update my graphics driver? I've attached a screenshot of the error message

I have to apologies, I over-read a important line in your OP because I focused on the error message in your screenshot.

"you have lost your connection to the session" is in fact a problem that is related to certain fire spells like immolate or fire mine.

This is a strange bug that is very hard to pinpoint. Sometimes it happens and on another playthrough everything is fine.

If you already purged the affected save games best course of action is to not use fire magic.

  • yep, tried with and without mods and the issue persisted

the only mods I had running anyway were Party Banter Levels Fixes, Neutral Expression (No frown while idle, and Party Banter Time (5-10 min)

I've continued playing in the working saves and levelling up my party and giving them gear in the same way as in my broken save and it still seems to work fine, only thing I've not done yet is unlock the champion skill tree for my inquisitor but I'm not sure why that would be the cause, I've played with blackwall in my party with the same champion skills as my inquisitor and had no issue

could it just be a corrupt set of saves or something?

    Try to repair the game.

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)

(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

If that don't helps, create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

  • I've tried verifying my steam files before and that had no effect.

It seems to only affect a couple saves as I've been able to progress beyond it by loading and playing from saves from before the problem, I'm just unsure whether the issue will return

I've attached the dxdiag incase anything in there sticks out
