DA:O Crashes after character creation

My copy of Origins is crashing before the first mission.  Is there any way to fix that? I'd like to play it again, it's been awhile...

I'm using the Ultimate Edition.  The Awakenings expansion works fine.  However, Origins doesn't want to work...

If you upgraded anything since you played last, you have to reconfigure.  If it's driver upgrades, this is a three year old game, and Geforce drivers are OFTEN incompatible with games that aren't practically new.  If you have one of their graphics cards, you may need to figure out what driver was working back when you ran the game before, and roll back to that one.

I know that nVIDIA stopped making it easy to get to their older drivers.  They want you to have to buy a new card.  But there are a great many "Library" services, many quite reliable, where older drivers are backed up and easier to get when this situation is involved (old game).

Radeon drivers aren't quite so undependable, but occasionally the same thing will happen with some new graphics drivers from AMD, as well.

Thank you for the advice.  I shall try to do that, however my computer is not letting me rollback the drivers.  I will try redownloading a legacy driver but it will be newer that the one I had in mind

One of the problems is that I have a new card, from last summer... the GeForce 640M LE... so is the card even compatible with the drivers that can run this? because I've only ever played it on this computer once, got to ostagar and it crashed after that...
