My game has crashed to desktop twice. All drivers and details are up-to-date and in place. Using Direct X 11 on a Windows 7 64-bit system. With each crash, the error message from Direct X says the following, verbatim. Hi everyoneI believed that I have fixed this problem since I have played the game for 2 days without any crash.I have tried to many ways to solves this problem at the first place, it took me a bit of time to completely fixed it. I have tried every suggestions such as: update driver to the lasted version, update directx, install visual C++, under locking video card, lower the graphic... at some points I thought I have fixed it but I can only play the game for 30 min - 1 hour then the game crash again during the gameplay or the cutscenes. Finally, thanks to "The Maker" 😕mileyvery-happy: I have successfully fixed this directx error.Here is how I have done. (some of the steps may not be necessary, but I still recommand you to do all of them, it never hurt to try and it can be done very quickly).1) I went to C:\Users\Your-Username\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save and delete ProfileOptions_profile. (Don't worry, you will not loose any of your saves, This will set your game graphic low any reset any of your game setting to default such as :keyboard control, subtitles in game... you can switch these option back on later).2) I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\directx\redist or to the location that you have installed the game, then open DXSETUP and install directx (If you press install and it say that your computer has already install it or anything similar to that, then you should be fine).3) I download and installed Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 ,Then reset your computer. (If you have already installed, uninstall it then reinstall again, Note that uninstall any Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 versions then only install 1 that fit your computer x64 or x84.)Link download: http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=306794) I disable Origin in Game, you can find this under Origin / Application setting / Origin In Game (this may not be necessary, but it will help to reduce the game lag).5) lauch your game then go to game option / display then switch to Windowed Fullscreen, also go to graphic to double check and make sure that Abient Occlusion has turn off. Then quit the game (because your setting will applied the next time your start the game).=> Lauch your game and Enjoy! 😕mileyvery-happy: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Notes 1: some of the thing I have not confirm that whether you can play your on any high graphic setting, I haven't try this since I'm not confidence that my computer is that strong to afford it anyway, I playing at low setting, the game run very smooth no lag or crash, the graphic is very good as well. If you computer are good then do all the steps first, play the game for 2-3 hours or even longer maybe, see whether the problem has fixed for your. Then try to go on what ever graphic as you like, I'm sure the game will look even better. The last several versions of DICE's Frostbite engine seem particularly sensitive to minor instabilities in GPUs, and even mild overheating. Overclocked GPUs, even factory overclocks, often must be downclocked, or you'll have to reduce the number of pixels with a lowered screen resolution. With this game, whatever they have done with the Frostbite engine seems far worse, as was the case with Crysis 3 -- even ordinary n60, n70 cards seem to be running into it among nVIDIA products. Geforce GPUs seem most affected, I think.

Since switching to Windowed Fullscreen mode I haven't had the crash, it's looking hopeful that this could be the fix for it.

I turned my game to Fullscreen Windowed (borderless) when I when I read this at around 1pm it is now 12:15 at night the following evening, not a single crash since I changed the setting.This is with an old Radeon HD 5870.

My Solution!I have 2 GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost cards in Sli configuration; using drivers version 344.75. I was suffering from this crash/error on multible occasions (cutscenes and the war room.) The game was unplayable.I searched for solutions and tried many of them (reloading drivers, reinstalling VC, turning off Ambient Occlusion, lowering my GPU Mhz, etc...) None fixed my error, although some resulted in having the error less often, but only somewhat playable if I skipped through cutscenes as quickly as possible, but still unable to use the war room (since you can't skip.) *After doing the following, I have had over 3 days of uninterupted gameplay through many long cutscenes and uses of the war room.*Using Nvidia's Geforce Experience as a guide, I set my graphic settings to the recomended optimal settings. They are as follows:Ambient Occlusion SSAODisplay Mode Full-screenEffects Quality LowGraphics Quality CustomMesh Quality HighMultisample Anti-Aliasing OffPost-process Anti-Aliasing HighPost-process Quality MediumResolution 1920x1080Resolution Scale 100Shadow Quality MediumTerrain Quality MediumTessellation Quality OffTexture Quality LowVegetation Quality MediumWater Quality HighNow, the graphics are noticeably worse than they were when I had the settings at High/Ultra, but not bad. I have not tried to increase any of the above to see if I can improve graphics and not get the error (why mess with a good thing.) All I can say is I LOVE THIS GAME and have been enjoying it without incident since I used those settings. Moreover, this worked for me and my setup (with factory overclock included!) I hope that if you are using the 650 Ti Boost this will work for you, or if you are using a different card, you can install Geforce Experience and try the recommended optimal settings to get the game to work for you.*Note: I did have to manually make the changes, the program could not make the changes for me.Good Luck and Happy Gaming!!P.S. Has anybody else found themself singing "The Inquisition" from Mel Brook's History of the World Part I while playing this game??

Just a note, something I always do with a new patch or update...repair it after its done doing its installation.
And if you don't have a solid state hard drive, check to see if it needs defragmenting. That helped immensely with my own game.
Never hurts to add a couple of minutes to fix anything that might have gotten borked in an installation.

OK thanks for the device but my Origin games are installed on my SSD in fact ^^.
The server is extremely slow i'm downloading the patch at 32k/s with a fiber connection :O

Not been on the game since end of January and just went on it after patch 6 installed and now the game refuses to run in fullscreen mode at all, I'm stuck in windows mode, any ideas if this is to do with the patches or something else? I can't test whether the directx crashes are fixed or not for me if I'm stuck in one of the methods to prevent the crashes.

This error has been happening more and more frequently for me, and now I've ended up in a position where I can not progress anymore - I have to go to the war table and go through a cutscene, and it can't make it through that without crashing to desktop. This was happening on patch 5, and I've tried several times again today with patch 6 and it won't do it.
Perhaps the answer lies in a class action lawsuit?

It seems for me that it is the postprocess. Just got off two long dialogue scenes, and no crash, but I didn't put it on low but medium, seems working now.
Crossing my fingers to keep it that way coz the game is really good!!

Well I had this problem too and apparently most of the RPG gamers have a habit of saving the game too many times... its more of a reflex that we try to save the game in a new/fresh slot before every conversation/interaction... I had this problem with witcher ages ago so i tried a similar fix and here is what worked for me.
The dragon age save file directory has the following files
DAISAVEAUTO<.....>.DAS
DAISAVECHAP<.....>.DAS
DAISAVEQUICK<.....>.DAS
...
...
...
.
ProfleOptions
ProfileOptions_profle
Of which the
ProfleOptions
ProfileOptions_profle
keeps our profile and gamesettings...
So everytime we save a game all the game details like time and space ... + the profile is saved i guess so it takes a huge space. The profile gets corrupted at some point i am not sure when because of this over head and machine limitations.
SO SIMPLY PUT- here is what you need to do:
1. Copy all saves to a new/different backup folder.
2. Delete all the files in the game save folder which is ..<C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save>
3. Start the game. It should start just fine.
4. Optimize the settings . Graphics, sound and such.
5. Save settings and Quit the game.
6. Open the game save folder. Notice that the "ProfileOptions" and the "ProfileOptions_profile" are back ..... This is your new settings.... DO NOT DELETE IT.
7. Copy your save files ONLY from your backup. Do not copy the "ProfileOptions" and the "ProfileOptions_profile" files.
ALSO- it is advisable to copy only your auto save, quick save, Milestone and time files only.
8. Now Start the game .... Load your save point and enjoy.
BACK your saves periodically... Organize them categorically elsewhere and keep your Dai save folder clean..
May the maker walk with you...!!

Once i turned them off (was using beta drivers) i could play until i switched the game off. i recently upgraded drivers to 14.12.

I created a desktop shortcut an went into the properties and added this to the target line.
-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+
I used to always crash during cut scenes and since I did this I have not so far.

Ive just rolled back my Geforce Nvidia drivers to 344.75 and touch wood it hasnt crashed for hours. Its definitely a driver thing and 344.75 specifically says for use with Dragon Age Inquisition. Good luck
