DirectX 11 or Mantle

Just did a 1:30h long PC graphic setting bonanza to find the best one And what did I find? Graphic API Mantele is either broken or Bioware Benchmark just lie. I'm getting +10 fps in the benchamrk if I set it to Mantle but here the thing I was testing it in-game to doing the tutorial level. And even thou Mantle was giving me +10FPS in game I had frequent random shuttering(even when northing happens and I'm looking at snow and some trees)( dialogue audio bugs(weird) . The same thing happens in multiplayer. But when I set it to DirectX11 all the shuttering and audio conversation bugs are gone. I don't know if Benchmark is full of **bleep** or Mantle is Broken but for now I advise ppl with problems AND Mantel turn ON to use DirectX 3D 11. Until Bioware patch it on AMD gives better drivers whatever is broken.

Getting the exact same issue. And mantle takes about 15x longer to load the game - so bizarre!

  • Same mantle is very stuttery and the FPS jumps around from 60 one second then 30 then back to 50 or 60 etc, plus much longer load times.

I've had greatly variable FPS, even on screens where nothing is happening.

It just seems wildly all over the place.

I get substantially better performance in Mantle but I have a pretty low end AMD Quad core CPU in this sytem so I am kind of a best-case scenario. The first load times are pretty long but after playing for a while they are roughly consistent with DX11 in my case. It looks like Mantle builds a local shader cache which causes long loads at first... I noticed it in the documents folder slowly getting larger as I played (it is roughly stable at around 60mb now).

I do get slightly more stuttering in mantle but the overall performance and FPS is so much better in my case that I can live with it. Just make sure you get the latest AMD drivers and install them cleanly if they don't help at first (uninstall previous drivers, reboot in safe mode and run DDU to clean them out, then reboot normally and install the new drivers).

If you have a fairly powerful CPU (Core i5+) then the benefits of Mantle in Inquisition will probably not outweight the negatives (at least until EA/AMD patch it further).

I've been getting better performance with Mantle vs. DX11. Out of curiousity, those of you with the Mantle issues, what video card are you running and did you do a clean uninstall when you installed the 14.11.2 drivers?
