Dissapearing NPC's

Every playthrough when I try to go near where Solas is supposed to be he isn't there, then everything starts going buggy and more stuff disappears and I can't load saves. Help??

  • @SihaSam This tends to be a common problem for people whose computers can't quite handle the game, specifically the graphics. A dxdiag would help us figure out if this could be the cause of your issue, you can find instructions on how to generate and post a dxdiag report in the spoiler section of this sticky. Please include any other information that could be relevant (such as if you're using mods, what, if anything, you've tried to fix the issue, if you've managed to play the game without issue before and what may have changed since then, etc) along with your dxdiag. Thanks 🙂

This is also an issue on mechanical hard drives, which is odd, because the current gen consoles have slow 5400RPM drives and as far as I know, they don't have this issue.

I used to have the issue where NPC wouldn't load and the workaround was to walk away and come back. (The NPCs don't load while you're looking.) The issue got better when I upgraded to a better graphics card and then disappeared completely when I moved the game from a standard 7200RPM hard drive to an SSD.

  • http://hastebin.com/emiwadijun.tex Thank you for replying, my pc can usually handle a lot of really high graphics games with no problem. I am using mods but none of them are overwriting and I've checked everything? I did try fixing the issue by repairing the game many times and uninstalling it, I once tried to install it without patch 6 but I don't think that helped.

@SihaSam The game is up to patch 11 (the final patch), so I'm assuming it's fully updated now? Patch 6 was a long time ago. 😛

Your computer should be able to run the game, though maybe not on super high settings (it really is very picky when it comes to graphics, my first suggestion when experiencing weird bugs is to try turning them down). Too many cosmetic mods could slow it down somewhat (it took a lot of them for that to happen with my old GTX 570 with reasonable graphics settings, but I never had people disappearing or anything like that).

What have you got your graphics settings at? Have you tried turning some down?

Also, just to completely rule them out, could you try removing your mod folder (remember to change package.mft in Update > Patch so you can load your save once you remove the mod folder. You should only need to increase the version number in that file by one, which should set it to 13. Use notepad to open the file, and undo the change when you put your mod folder back)?
