Downloading a digital copy

I have an old hard copy of DA2 which I got back in 2011. Then Origin came and I registered the game with my account. Right now, I have the option to download it if I want to install it rather than using the disc. When I do that, the game seems to download fine, but when I try to run it (with or without the patches), I get an error and it won't start.

So I looked up the price on Origin and since it's cheap as dirt I'd like to get myself a shiny new digital copy.

Actual question: since I already have the game registered, how do I make sure that when I buy another copy I download that new digital copy instead of the old one (which doesn't work) from the cloud? Will Origin do this for me? I'm asking because it's first time I'm in a situation where I'm rebuying a game I already own digitally. Maybe the answer is obvious, that yes, Origin is smart and knows what I want, but I just want to make sure I'm not gonna do something stupid.

  • The digital download you get from registering your physical copy contains the exact same files as when you buy the digital version directly. If you have issues with your current installation of Dragon Age II, then you'll get the same issues if you buy the digital edition.

Instead, it's probably better to just try and solve this issue. When you downloaded and installed the game, did you make sure you uninstalled the game beforehand?

I would also like a few more details about your issue. Could you share the exact error message you're getting?

I installed the game from the physical disc and it installed fine. When I tried to run it, I got the Release Date Check from the other recent topic here. I used the solution I saw there (changing the date to march 21 2014) and the game launched fine at last. I logged in and it's cool, except it's running in a small window and I can't go to fullscreen.

Seriously, what is going on with this game?

Tried downloading the Black Emporium and the Promo Pack via Origin and there's an error. Tried to send a report and it tells me I'm not connected to the Internet. Say wut?

Come on, BioWare. What is this bull?

The error that popped up, just in case:    327683:0

Could this be related to patches? I downloaded 1.02. I don't want 1.03 because it screws up the game balance in a really stupid way.

Have you tried download Black Emporium from your DLC page on the BioWare site?

Regarding your fullsreen/window issue, I just launched Dragon Age II to see if alt+enter would work, only to get the error "another application is preventing you from running DA2 in fullscreen". This is the first i've heard of the issue, but I'll try to figure out a fix.

Edit: I only have the fullscreen issue if I launch directly from the executable. It launches fine through the Origin client. In my case, I believe it's caused by an overlay in Windows 10. In any event, switching to fullscreen in the game options works regardless of how I launch the game.

I downloaded the Black Emporium and other stuff (the green icon promo equipment) through that site. The download wouldn't work through Origin. I guess there would be issues with that because DA2 launched as a non-Origin game, but even with the old forum site downloads, it didn't work. After I installed the DLC, the game wouldn't launch anymore, even in the crappy window mode.

Found solutions to running DA2 properly in other threads here (disabling Aero and running under DX9), so the thread can be marked as solved, I guess.
