I've got this bug too. I have killed the dragon and recruited Fredrick but the draconology quest is not completed. I cannot go into the cave which supposed to be opened after the dragon fight.
Another new patch - this bug remains. At least EA are consistent - in ignoring their customer base.
I think as long as we keep posting on this and a few other message boards addressing this Draconology bug they will ultimately have to respond. I think they are caught up with the numerous board topics on problems with their PC version crashing all the time...
